Scampi Gotcha Day!

This picture was taken on the first day Scampi came into our lives. It has not been always easy, but he is my happy little bundle of joy, always by my side, always trusting me no matter where I bring him, he knows now that he always comes home with me. We have both gotten older (and grayer) since we took this picture, but despite this,he plays like a little pup! -Kira and Scampi's Mom

Back to me now! Mom has been so neglecting me and my blog! We have not gone boating in months! I finally got to go this past weekend, Mom did not take many pictures though....Scampi is always giving Mom trouble, this time he fell in the water when we were docked at the marina, the water is quiet deep and he could not figure out how to get out, Mom had to climb down a ladder and rescue him, he is fine, but Mom got a bit cut up from the barnacles on the ladder. She was worried about him because he got so sick this past winter, that she washed and blow dried him for a couple of hours to keep him warm, the water temperature was not even cold, silly little dog! (60 degrees) I would not have gotten cold, but then again, I would not have fallen in.

Anyway, Happy Gotcha Day to my little dork of a brother.....Here is a smile fur him! Well really it is fur me, I was so happy to be back on my boat.....

So sorry we have been gone for so long, my Mom has been too busy to bother with me.The very good news is that Mom's little dog and kitty sculptures were very popular this year, which means many many green papers for rescued dogs and kitties. She is still figuring out where to send more donations, but has several places picked out.

The not so good news is our little Scampi has been not well, but Mom persisted, and brought him to the vet repeatedly. They thought it was allergies, then suddenly it was considered serious, and she was told the scary "cancer" word. After much worrying and many tests, Scampi is still sick, but he is fixable. He has pneumonia.Mom is keeping him warm and inside and quiet, which means it is rather boring for me, but Mom seems happier. Hopefully now I can get her back working on my being my secretary.

And A Day Late......Almost woo'less thursday.......I have been around snooping through woo blogs, may sad events, many silly ones too, Laverne and Shirley,....... not much new here fur me. Mom is so busy she is going nuts... but that is a good thing fur her. So, I just lay around waiting fur the cooler weather that is supposed to come this weekend.

Sorry I had to keep woo all waiting, we had a Brighthouse failure, no phone, no internet, fur a whole day!!!!!

Now, on to my great day! First a bunch of humans climbed into My boat fur a boat ride, I am not used to sharing my seat....so I was not so sure about this.

Then we arrived at this dock with some other boats, there was wonderful smells in the air, It was a big outdoor restaurant (Mar Vista) where they allow doggies!

Lucky me. I sat under the table and everyone said how beawootiful I was

and gave me parts of their lunches! ( the best seafood!)

That was great, after a little walkie along the water we climbed back into the boat,

I thought the day was over, but wait.....

We beached the boat on a sand bar. I got my life jacket on, very excited!

I LOVE to swim in the salt water. I was so happy!

The water in different spots was only ankle deep on me, to a couple of feet,

perfect swimming !

I first was very impressed by all of the seafood, I tried catching some of these fur a while, but the Momster made me drop it, they do pinch a bit, one got my nose!

My other fur friends got to go too, but my friend James, did not like the water on his feets....

Scampi, after fussing a bit came out of the boat

and visited with our friends, James and Travis,

and Mom took him on a little walkie around the sandbar while I was fishing fur crab,

then we both walked around

Mom put Scampi back in the boat, he was whining....

I got my pink jacket off to feel the cool water, and I swam and swam fur hours!

happened here. I dragged Mom away from her work and we went out on the boat fur the weekend!

Wooos ! What fun! Boating!

We drove the car fur a long car ride, I had a nice nap, then got out to go potty at a gas station, then got back in the car fur more riding.... then we arrived in Sarasota! Mom and Dad unloaded the boat from the trailer and I got in it, weeeee!

we went across the Sarasota Bay to Longboat Key,

where Mom said we were spending the weekend.

It was a lovely day with a nice walkie after we arrived.

but the best day I ever had was soon to come......

You have to excuse us, I am about to fire my secretary. She has been ignoring me and my blog! I do not know what has come over her. She has a problem, which means so do I.

I will be calling AA (Artists Anonymous).

All she does is spend all day in her studio working,

and even more bothersome, sometimes all hours of the night. I caught her in the studio the other night at 3 am.

We look cute, and try to get her to leave it and play with us,

but she sends us away, saying later, well, I think later is NOW!

I might have to recruit some of my blogging pals to get Mommy back to life with us.

Any suggestions?

do not worry about us not having on our life jackets, we were tied into the boat.

We only put them on when we are going swimming or are anchored out.

We are back! Mom will be catching up this week on everyone's blog, hoping to see some good things, I already saw a very happy post over at Khyras....I hope everyone has had a safe summer, I have been so bored, with Mom being sick, then working like a mad crazy lady trying to catch up on all of her missed work, so finally this weekend, they took me out on my boat!

It was mom and Dad's 27th anniversary.

we went up the intercoastal waterway to Palm Coast, FL.. It was Very hot, but Mom loved the way I smiled, watch fur the Great BIG smile when we speed up and the wind blows through my furs!

Mom is leaving us fur a few days, her Dad and human sister are going to New York (Schenectady) to visit the in-laws... does that make Mom an outlaw?? Just wondering.

So the bald guy in this picture, who lives with human sis, is going to be staying here. I convinced Mom that it would be much better to have our own personal servant than go to doggie jail. I hope he works out well.

Scampi and I are working real hard around here......we could use our own boy.

Fur those who have been asking Mom is better although her eye and left ear have continued to have problems. She has some reduced hearing in the left ear and the eye sight she has been told is not fixable. They can correct it partially with some new glasses they are ordering fur her, but the eyesight will not completely return. Mom is adjusting and is painting and sculpting with no problems.

On a horrible note, please read the updates on Bear-Bear, found on Khyra and Meeshka's blogs.
Also there was another case of police shooting of dogs, last month

We will be back in a week or so, Let us please find the world in a better place.

Mom was driving to the store yesterday morning when this little guy was running in and out of traffic. She pulled over and stopped traffic to catch him. He was on a very busy road! Scary.

He was lucky.

Mom drove around a little to see if anyone locally recognized the little guy .She also brought him to the vet to see if he was micro-chipped, he was not, and had on no collar or tags.

Then she brought him home fur some water.

She made some signs and put them up near the place where he was found. In a few hours she got a call from a scared teenager who had lost him that morning.

"Marty" The Terrier was soon reunited with his family a lucky, and now safe, Pup!

Please get your Pups micro-chipped! It may save them from ever having to go into a pound if found!

We are back from Mom's break....

Mom was busy so she would not type fur me. We had a lot of humans over to say goodbye to human brother. For those who might be interested in a human boy in Korea, here is his blog.

We just sat around. Scampi has hurt his leg, so he limped around whining, don't worry, Mom says he is just a baby and pulled a muscle...He is already acting better.

We had quite the disruption around the house packing up things and getting him off, but things are much quieter now, and Mom has consoled herself by making art.( she says she is just keeping busy )

I can not wait fur something exciting to happen, besides our nighttime walkies, it is hot and boring here. We will be spending days catching up on all of our blogging friends. See ya soon!

we watched him quietly until he ran up a tree.

Mom was proud of us fur being quiet and not barking at it.

Scampi pretended he did not exist, I just watched quietly with my ears way up.

Then we finished our walkie.

PeeEss Woo- We will be gone fur a few days, Mom has a dog seminar with Laura Romanik this weekend, then she will be going to Georgia (at the Korean Embassy) fur a couple of days ( it is an 8 hour plus drive) with human brother to get his visa to go to work in Korea.
We will be back and catch up as soon as we can.

Although the water feels like bath water, Mom says it is almost 90 degrees! (The water, not the outside air!)

Woos All! It is way too hot out. Lately I have been getting up at noon, for and hour or so, have breakfast, then just go back to sleep until dark. Fur some reason Mom is not happy about me waking her up all night so I can go out and putter in the yard at night.

It is too hot during the day, So I must do my yard patrol at night.

She just does not get it! (Right Bilbo???)

Bored and update

Wooos! I am still around, although we have been very bored. Mom and Dad are helping human brother move out of his apartment , far, far away (an hour and a half ) and get ready fur his big adventure in a foreign land, even further far, far away (Korea). He moves away from us the middle of July. Fur now it is fun though because he has moved mostly back into his old room, so I get to see him all of the time!

Moms eye does not give her any pain much, and although she can not see out of it, the good news is that she has learned to sculpt with one eye. She discovered it is not as hard as she thought, which is a really good thing otherwise she would be crazy lady.....she still has not figured out how to paint, something to do with perspective....the prognosis for a complete recovery is still unknown, the eye doc said that there is scar tissue over the pupil which is causing the sight loss. We will not know until the eye has healed completely, which may be another month. We have been reading our friends blogs, just not commenting much as the computer makes Mom's eye hurt (so does the TV), we will be hopefully back on track soon.

What we have been doing...

since Mom got sick...

we have been watching over her. It is hard work, so we take turns laying in the bed with her.

We also got in some help (as she was kitten sitting for human sister again.)

Mom is slowly getting better. The pain is starting to go away, there is quite a bit of scar tissue in her eye and the eye doctor is unsure of her prognosis for being able to see clearly again with it. For now, she can see light and shapes out of it. We will continue to keep all paws on deck watching out fur her!

There are some words which are so central, yet unique to the ways of thinking of a particular society or culture that they are very hard to translate so as Korean culture. In the United States, for instance, history has endowed words such as liberty and equality with special meaning importance. In Korean, perhaps an even more important and difficult word to understand for the foreigner is the word 정 ( affection, warmth, feeling, sentiment, love ). The concept of 정 is an essential part of how Koreans view and express their relationships. Tenderhearted, affectionate people are valued as having a lot of 정. Country people, who will often offer a complete stranger a meal and a place to sleep, have a lot of 정.
Certain gestures indicate 정. When serving rice, for instance, a Korean will always serve at least two scoops of rice per bowl, any less and one is lacking in 정. This gesture of giving and of indulgence emphasizes generosity and feeling over the logic of calculating how much someone might really eat.
As always, the best way to get to understand how Koreans think is to interact with them and get to know some of them. You will probably hear them talk a lot about 정. And hopefully, they’ll say you have a lot of it. Types of 정: 감정 - feeling, 정서 - emotion/sentiment, 애정 - love/affection, 열정 - passion, 인정 - human nature, 동정 - sympathy/compassion, 심정 - heart

Thank you for all of the well wishes. I find I am going to have a very difficult time ahead. I have been diagnosed with ocular shingles. This means a lot of pain, and house quarantine for the next 3 weeks. ( It can be transmitted to people with immune problems , pregnant woman and some others)( I have lost the use of one eye and the doctors say it may be months before I regain my sight in it. As visual artist this is very difficult to accept. You lose all sense of perspective with one eye. I reach for something and miss. I have trouble walking on steps.( I have felt the need to smash canvas or throw things) Instead of whining to the world and feeling sorry for myself, I have to find something positive from this.

It has been interesting watching the dogs. At first they could not figure out what was up, watching, waiting for walkies...I know they are watching me. I feel them near, they started yesterday taking turns laying on the bed with me, (which is usually not allowed.) One jumps down, nudges the other and he/she jumps up and lays down. When Kira lays with me, you can feel the whole bed shake with her panting, which is a rather soothing rocking feeling. I am going to try during this time to understand them more than I already do, to learn to communicate by observing. (Since I can't do anything else)

As a dog/ puppy trainer I am always reading and learning.

Dogs watch us all of the time. You can see that they pick up little things, like a hand movement before we say anything. They read our body language to figure out when it is time for a walk, time to play, time for training.

Dogs do not speak english (or spanish , french, etc) They figure out what we want by conditioning and training. They may understand that sit means to put your rear down , but it was conditioning that taught them that.The first step to good communication with your dog is: don't talk too much. Your canine friends do not spend hours in long verbal conversations with each other .Dogs are almost always communicating with each other and with their humans. The majority of this communication is through body language. Our problem is that we only understand some of the vocabulary.If you pay close attention to your dog, you will begin to understand more of what it is trying to tell you.

There have been strange men over out our house fur a couple of days, making lots of noise with big noisy tools . I don't like the noise, but it is too hot to stay outside.

The best part is that they eat pizza, and gave me some! Mum has not taken many pictures, due to the dust.

Fur some reason they are taking all of the stuff out of my cool room (with the magic well of cool water!) and putting in new dusty stuff, I can only hope the well will be bigger and cooler...Now they are almost done and Mom has made some noise about baths once again.. bummer..

Scampi has spent his days in hiding....

We have been so busy here, that my secretary as not been posting comments, and we have not been even visiting much! We are going to take a few days off from posting and see if we can catch up with all of woo. Health Update

Good news! (fur a change)

I have had several inquiries as to me health lately, I have not mentioned anything, because it has been good!

Fur those who are new to reading my blog, I have idiopathic epilepsy and diabetes insipidus.

My seizures caused much anxiety because I was having strokes with each grand mal seizure.

The good news is this-July 17th 2009 was my last seizure!

It has been almost 10 months!

Mum is so proud of me,( and the vet) fur finally finding a medicine to control my seizures.

I went to the vet fur my check up this week, and he said that everything is looking good, including my heart , which had no signs of heart failure.

This is my first picture that Mom took of me.

I admit, I was difficult at first. Mom had to work very hard with me.

I was not the perfect dog, nor was she the perfect human,

but we learned and growed together

I had to learn to trust humans, in my past something

something very bad happened to me

.I was found running loose after a very bad and scary storm, (they called it a hurricane.)

Kira found me at a rescue center ( it was my 3rd shelter that she knows of) and I played with her.

Mom said if it was not for me playing with Kira so well she would not have adopted me because of my age. Little did she know then of the other issues I had.

I think Kira was very smart in picking me to come home with her!

Mom had to learn how to be a better trainer and to understand us dogs more than she ever had to in the past with her other doggies. She took a lot of training classes with me.

She admits she had a lot to learn about fear aggression and nervous dogs.

She even learned massage therapy for us dogs!

After living with me for 4 years now, we have learned a lot from each other.

About patience, love and respect.

Mom is now a special trainer for puppies and other dogs and owners who have issues.

I am a very lucky boy as not many humans would try an adopt an older dog and not so many humans would try so hard to figure out how to help me overcome my fears.

Mom may not be the best trainer, but I am not the best dog either.

I think we are very special because we love each other!

To answer a question in the comments- the vet guesses I am around 12 years old, now. So Mommy adopted me when I was around 8.

I wanted to ride shotgun, but Mum made me move to the back where I get seat-belted in...

Finally went to beach!

It was too windy and the currents were too strong to stop

and beach the boat anywhere to go swimming.

On the last night, just at sunset, Mom took Scampi and I fur a little walkie

and we found a beach!

She let me go in, but Scampi was afraid and ran off to be with Dad

who was taking my picture.

It was so nice a cool to feel the saltwater once again,

even if I had to be on a leash!

I even let them pose me fur a sunset picture, although I did not look at the camera!

Pee Ess Woo!-All of woo were asking about seasick dogs, no, neither Scampi or I have ever tossed up anything in the boat (or out of the boat) from seasickness. we do not go out in rough seas, the ones in yesterdays video were only about 2 ft seas, and Mom will NOT allow anything more than that, or she will get sea sick.

I was trying to take a nap, but the winds were up and things got a bit bumpy.

I had trouble staying in my seat!

Scampi was scared, as usual, I liked it, although I keep sliding off the seat.

I got a new Jacket! Mom called it a life jacket and it is for getting wet.

Here I am being very brave looking out the side of the boat.

I do not plan on getting my new jacket wet! That would be just yucky!

Mom got it for me she says because I like to do things like this,

and I fell off of the boat last time we were on it.

I tried out The Queen's windy seat which she likes so much since she was on the floor in the shade

. I did not like it.

I stayed dry the whole weekend

We had a long car ride at night.

Here we are stopping for gas in the truck...

We went all the way to a place called Sareeesoda, Fl..

It was rather dark to see me, and Dad did not let Mom take flashy pictures when he was running the boat, as she had to help me navigate.

When we got to the marina we saw a strange creature in the water.
A friend caught him in his net to let us see it better.

Mom and I had never seen anything like it before. They were called

Sea Hares

DISTRIBUTION

All around the world in temperate and tropical waters.

The sea hare squirts dark ink

I wanted one fur a snack but Mom would not let me

as she did not know if I would get the sickies if I ate it.

We slept late the next morning but it was a sunny,

beawoootiful day fur a boat Ride!

So I let them have my seat fur awhile....

It was tough sharing a seat with the phycho dog! He kept drooling on me!

Finally, they gave me my windy seat!

What a nice day!

Sadly, it was time to go home! We had a lovely weekend!

Well I did any way, I am not too sure about psycho dog.

Boating! I hate it. It is ok when we leave the boat.Or if it tied to the dock and Mom is sitting with me or petting me on it. and the motor is not running.

It can get really crowded down in the little cabin with the big furry dog stepping on me.

I have learned to open the cabin door to get in and out when I want.

I also learned how to open the back door,

which I discovered was not a "good dog" trick.

I just reached my paws around the slide lock and pull, it opens!

.Mom yelled at me!

Later I found out why when I fell off the back platform waiting for Mom, who was taking forever to get me off the boat when we docked! I fell in the water and Mom laughed at me while I was furiously dog paddling to save my life! I could not believe she laughed! She then reached in and pulled me out. She covered me in towels and dried me off. I also figured out how to slide under the door opening, which is only 6" high!

Mom said something about buying me a new life jacket now.( and maybe a new back door lock?) That sounds nice, I like keeping warm and wearing coats!

Spa Day! It had been awhile since I have been treated to a nice spa...so early in the morning I reminded Mom by starting with the mud roll,

then a run through the wet shrubs.

At this point she realized it was time for my sauna and shower. I got all warm, clean and toweled off.

Then a nice shake and roll on the carpeting.

Then I laid in the sun to be groomed.

I declined the blow dry since it was nice and warm out.

Later, here I am looking my handsome self.

This is where we were, for those who want to know.....

it is on the west coast of Florida in the middle of the state.

Most of the park is a wild bird sanctuary, Mum took lots of pictures of birdies, since she like to paint them.

Most places, dogs were not allowed on the beach,( because of nesting birdies)

but we took a long walkie through the desert...

As woo know I live in Florida, where the season are not the same as they can be elsewhere.

Right now, as Mum is cleaning up the yard from our freezing weather, clearing away the dead plants,

Woo can see a picture of our trees.

As woo can see it looks a little bare, It is a Laurel Oak tree, considered evergreen, except fur a couple of weeks in early spring, where all of the old leafs are pushed out by the new growth.

It makes a mess.

I finally got to go, but it turned out it was a teachers meeting.

Mum sat a table and took notes while I had to sit in a crate.

Mum said she had to cutoff the lower leaves due to the severely cold winter we had.

It was his22nd birthday and my human Granda's birthday!

I admit it! Ido not like the boat. It was not too bad this weekend though,

It rained on Saturday, so we napped.

Then we got to go for walkies and hang out on the dock.

That was not so bad.

As for those who were wondering about our plank, I do not mind going up and down it at all, after all it is the way to get off the boat!

It reminds me of agility class which is so much fun

Wooos to woo all

I did! I got to go out on my boat!

Here I am enjoying the ride.

A bunch of seagulls followed us for a while, really close.

I wanted to snatch one, but Mum was afrad I would fall off the boat!

Here we are arriving at Harbortown Marina for the weekend!

The only thing I did not like was Mum had to bring the ramp (a.k.a. the Plank!) so I could get on and off the boat, these were not floating but fixed docks, so the boat goes up and down with the tides.

I then took a little nap, Mum said I was so cute....
