Recalled Dog Food!

Momma is not happy, any one have any recommendations on how to suddenly switch foods, we have been eating Eukanuba fur a long time....Mom says I have a VERY sensitive system, switching foods usually makes me sick unless she gradually introduces it. We were on The Naturally Wild Venison

The following dry pet food products are included:

Product Name Version “Best-By” Dates UPC Codes
Iams Veterinary Dry Formulas All dry sizes and varieties 01Jul10 – 01Dec11 All UPC Codes
Eukanuba Naturally Wild All dry sizes and varieties 01Jul10 – 01Dec11 All UPC Codes
Eukanuba Pure All dry sizes and varieties 01Jul10 – 01Dec11 All UPC Codes
Eukanuba Custom Care Sensitive Skin All dry sizes 01Jul10 – 01Dec11 All UPC Codes

The affected products are sold in veterinary clinics and specialty pet retailers throughout the United States and Canada.  No canned food, biscuits/treats or supplements are affected by this announcement.  A full listing of UPC codes can be found at www.iams.com.

These products are made in a single, specialized facility.  In cooperation with FDA, P&G determined that some products made at this facility have the potential for salmonella contamination.  As a precautionary measure, P&G is recalling all products made at this facility.

Consumers who have purchased the specific dry pet foods listed should discard them.  People handling dry pet food can become infected with Salmonella, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with surfaces exposed to this product.  Healthy people infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. Rarely, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation and urinary tract symptoms. Consumers exhibiting these signs after having contact with this product should contact their healthcare providers.

Pets with Salmonella infections may have decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain.  If left untreated, pets may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting.  Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.

Thanks for posting. That is always scary. I have a sensitive tummy too. It takes me weeks to get used to a new food. I have found that the natures balance limited ingredient food works well for me. I mix it with the science diet W/D that the vet gives me.

I hope you can find something to eat before you starve to death.

Good Luck in finding something - we all eat Kirkland brand dog food from Costco and it works well for us.

Thanks for posting this important message! Is this just for dog food or cat food, too?

We vote for the Natures Balance with Limited ingrediments too! Vet advised less stuffs to annoy tummies. My mom buys us the Salmon/Sweet Potato since it has a liitle less protein than the other varieties (Minna has serious kidney issues awhile back so we try to contol the protein). They have lots of other yummy combos though!

Good Luck
MinnaK

PeeS mom never had food issues with any of her doxin herds before Minna. They could, and would, eat anything anytime! Now she gots Miss Sensitive Tummy that is also a picky eater. So she has to pay attention to da foods now too!

It is always best to make the switch slowly but if you are really concerned, find something that is the closest in ingredients to what you are using. We all get EVO because it is grain free and it seems to work well for all of us. But we have also had good luck with Eagle Pack. Good luck. When will these recalls end?

With sensitive systems, I would try a grain-free dog food. That should be more digestible and easier to switch to.

Look for something with "meal" in it. If chicken is your protein source of choice, it should list chicken meal in the ingredients. That is preferable over whole chicken and infinitely better than chicken by-products. Whole chicken means that they used the water weight while weighing it to make it appear higher on the ingredient list than it should be.

Also, you can add a little canned pumpkin in, which should help to prevent loose stool. You shouldn't have to add it in for long, maybe a few days. Just remember that it's pure canned pumpkin, not the pumpkin pie mix! Lots of people get confused by that.

Good luck,

We weren't happy to see this as my yummy 'California Naturals Lamb & Rice' will soon be a P&G 'produkht' - they are supposedly keeping their facility and plant manager but.....

I've heard good things about NB - same fur some of the Costco premium offerings -

We've also heard good things about a new line Tractor Supply is carrying -

Good lukhk!

Then again, maybe woo need Happy Hearts 24/7!

We posted on this too. It's scary how many recalls there are now. Makes you wonder how many there should have been but were kept secret. For all brands, not just the ones involved in this recall.

The human woman feeds us Science Diet sensitive stomach. It is, by far, the best we've had and their dog food has never been recalled. The sensitive stomach stuff works great for the Mutatoe, who gets an upset stomach if he eats anything... literally anything else.
